Polished chrome, brushed steel, and dark nickel will be the most popular modern finishes. The drawback of polished chrome especially is usually that it turns up finger marks quickly. One method to help avoid that is to select a range where the plate is generally polished chrome or dark nickel. However, the switches themselves construct of dark or white plastic material. Of the three finishes mentioned previously, brushed steel (also called brushed chrome) may be the easiest to maintain clean.
Change Film Contamination - As time passes, a contaminating film can develop on the top of a relay get in touch with, increasing its level of resistance, which will make the switched voltages erratic when sourcing or measuring low voltage. Voltages >l00mV are enough to clear this contamination usually. Using scanner cards with solid-condition switches might help prevent this nagging issue.
To create a change loop, attach the incoming hot (dark) cable to the white neutral wire that works to the change.
